FRIDAY 13 to SATURDAY 23 APRIL 2011
And the search is on for the magnificent EIGHT that will go to make up WRITE NOW 2011, Liverpool’s annual one-act play festival.
We are looking for submissions from playwrights in the hunt for a handful of original, exciting, entertaining, thought-provoking new pieces of theatre that will go to make up Liverpool’s second annual one-act Festival.
Submissions Opens = Monday 19 July 2010
Close = Friday 24 September 2010
The 2010 Submissions Process saw a constant stream of new and previously unpublished scripts and we a looking for more for Write Now 2011.
HOWEVER
…the second annual Festival has more opportunities than 2010. For the first time we are also inviting submissions for a brand new FAMILY AUDIENCE strand. Yes, shows for kids!
The Festival takes place over the first week of the Easter holiday so, not only are we inviting playwrights to submit their texts for 60 minute pieces – with more adult themes – we are looking to create a platform for brand new writing for children in the 40-45 minute Family Audience strand.
So, if you’re a writer dust off that piece you’ve had tucked away…it could be the start of something big…
GET INVOLVED
If you’re an actor, director, technician, front of house or box office person then watch this space…
Once all pieces have been read by our Adjudicating Panel and the seven pieces have been selected (which should be in late November 2010), actors, directors, technicians and so forth will be invited to be part of the Festival which will run from Friday 13 to Saturday 23 April 2011, presenting performances of new plays in a Liverpool city-centre venue dedicated to new writing.

FEEDBACK
We’d love to hear what you think about Write Now. Feel free to “click here” and let us know .
By Jim Cartwright, starring Neil Caple and Pauline Daniels
“It’s a wonderful play and is given a special performance with great lighting and sound, the venue is new for theatre-goers but well worth seeking out” – Phil Key, The Liverpool Daily Post
“Daniels and Caple prove a remarkable double act of invention and intervention, nowhere do they falter in physical presentation. There is something cosy and unpretentious about the Actors Studio, where the seats come courtesy of the stripped out Floral Pavillion in New Brighton.” 7/10 – Joe Riley, The Liverpool Echo
When I am 60
By Eileen Pollock
“Pollock is a random raconteur, hopping from topic to topic, it’s rather like talking to your mum or a slightly eccentric relative” 6/10 – Catherine Jones, The Liverpool Echo
John Gorman Live
“A very accomplished and entertaining evening from a master storyteller” – Spencer Leigh, BBC Radio Merseyside
Madonna and Me
“A totally Merseyside production, from the director to the excellent cast, very much a Liverpool show and in the intimate surroundings of the Actors Studio in Seel Street, Madonna and Me comes across as fresh and rather loveable” – Philip Key, The Liverpool Daily Post
“A play at Liverpool’s smallest theatre that rivals in it’s writing which is currently playing at Liverpool’s largest. Whiston and Merseyside should be proud of it’s playwriting sons, Willy Russell and Tommy Kearney and should nurture the latters burgeoning talent for all it’s worth.” – Chris High, BBC
Shirley Valentine
“Pauline’s comic timing is spot on throughout, here is pathos and humour in equal measure. This show is a sparkling, thought-provoking and hugely enjoyable theatrical journey of self-discovery” “Isn’t that right wall?” 10/10 – Peter Grant, The Liverpool Echo
Simply Shakespeare
“A brilliant show, Johnny Kennedy, a class act. Too soon the recital ended, but in true professional style, Johnny left the audience wanting more. We did not notice the rain as it raineth on Seel Street as we made our way home, hoping we don’t have long to wait for a repeat performance.” Sandra Corfe, BBC Radio Merseyside
The Promise
“There are a lot of nice touches that have freshened a time honoured story strong charactisations, a lot of catchy tunes, an enjoyable night out.” – Chris High, What’s On Stage
“There are some good strong singers, some beautiful Mama’s and Papa’s-style harmonies, in the hands of theatrical powerhouse Pauline Daniels, David Cope grows in confidence and stature as the show progresses with a strong vocal performance.” Catherine Jones, The Liverpool Echo
